LIFE COACHING---WHAT’S THAT?
Try as I
might I cannot define Life-coaching in ten words or less and nor can any other
coach it seems.
Life
coaching is all encompassing it combines a range of techniques and theories to enable
those of us committed to personal growth to achieve lasting, often
extraordinary results.
A coach
will work in partnership with a client to enhance their personal power across
the seven foundations in life, health, spiritual, work, finances, personal
relationships, family and social life.
Vision, values, goals, habits, attitudes, barriers, perceptions, life
choices, balanced living, fulfillment are common themes across the coaching
spectrum.
A coach does not make decisions for their client; their job is to design strategies that will enable each individual to define success in their own terms at the same time help them to overcome barriers to that success. Life coaching picks up where motivational seminars, teambuilding and self help books leave off; it is not an easy option, there is work to be done.
On a one to one basis either over the phone or face-to-face comfort zones are challenged, habits changed, beliefs revised, achievements celebrated. With a coach people move beyond what they could normally achieve alone, a coach recognises potential (even if their client can’t) and will ensure their client stays on track by holding them accountable for their progress while cheering them on all the way.
So many
folk muddle through life lowering their sights and making do, their lives limited by
unconscious blocks built up over time.
Others are getting ahead, busy, busy, busy, but again quality of life is
compromised. For as many reasons as there are people the demands and complexity
of life can overwhelm; at times just getting through the day in a busy family
deserves a medal.
Our life
purpose is so easily compromised, a coach is an investment in a journey to be
the best we can while living a healthy and balanced life. Greater numbers of
people are recognising that life coaching is not a
‘trend’ aimed at the corporate sector only, life
coaching is relevant for anyone ready to enhance their lives.
The
coaching relationship is founded on trust, honesty and action.
This
relationship will achieve more than a good heart to heart with a friend, the
emotional inter dependency of friendships can restrict an individuals freedom
to grow unconditionally.
Coaches
bring with them an objectivity that a friend can not provide. Life-coaching is
about enabling growth and prosperity, no one needs a coach but it makes good
sense to have one.
